metaPackager A digital
Time Capsule
Imagine
a "time-capsule" buried in the sand that included coded
information we could not access without a "secret decoder
ring." Imagine the discovery of an ancient pyramid - however,
instead of a mummy in the tomb, there is a document describing the
mummy! Imagine a bunch of text that described a picture versus the picture
itself! At
HiSoftware, we understand the importance of transferring meaning with
the document which becomes the digital time capsule. We have come up
with the industry's first digital snapshot software that allows for
meaning and rich metadata. What
is a digital snapshot? A
Digital Snapshot is a complete digital collection of
objects/elements that make up the meaning and authors representation
of a digital object. One that requires no outside "Decoder
Ring." Imagine the mummy in the tomb. Along with the mummy,
there is a description of the mummy, its creation properties, the
tools used to create it, and a universal translator that allows you
to read this information. That is the power of
metaPackager. What
makes up the digital snapshot?
-
Rich
metadata
Metadata is used to identify and describe the document or object
-
The
Document Type Embedded (XML)
When using XML a DTD (document type description) may be used to
define and qualify a view of the
document.
-
File
Details
The file properties are embedded in the package:
-
The
Document/Object (Original)
The Digital File is embedded as is, so it can be extracted for
viewing in its "Original" form. Anything short of this
removes meaning!
-
Any
schema needed for viewing
XML or HTML may allow us to view the metadata record.
-
The
Schema Used to generate custom metadata
The complete schema available when adding custom metadata.
What
does this provide? One
file that is index-able, portable, retrievable, and secure. A
document that represents a digital time capsule on the day it was
created requiring no outside "Decoder Ring!"
