This presentation covers the HiSoftware Accessibility Interview Wizard.

The Interview Wizard assists in reporting on accessibility checkpoints that must be tested visually.

This feature works for either Section 508 reporting or the W3C WCAG reporting mode.

For this demonstration, we will be using Section 508 mode reporting, but working in the W3C WCAG 1.0 reporting mode is similar.

Why is this solution needed?

Though many checkpoints can be tested programmatically, there are some that can only be tested visually or there needs to be a combination of both.

In the past, there was no solid solution for keeping track of which checkpoints were tested visually, for what pages on the site, and who tested them.

AccVerify is the only complete test management solution available.

AccVerify allows the user to perform programmatic verification and visual verification.

The visual verification results along with the person who verified the pages are recorded in the interviewer and stored in the recorder database and/or in XML records.

One of the first steps is to create a list of verifiers.

From the Settings menu of AccVerify, select Accessibility Interview, then Edit Verifiers.

If you are working alone, you may be the only verifier.

If you are working on a team, there may be several verifiers working on your site.

If working on a team, you may decide that the Verifier database will be stored on a network where a large number of users have access to it.

Completing this form is as simple as completing the fields.

Close the form when done.

Next you choose your interview settings.

From the Settings menu of AccVerify, select Accessibility Interview, then Interview Wizard Settings.

The wizard now appears.

The questions tab is where you will select the questions that will appear during the interview.

This list of questions is based upon whether you are working in Section 508 reporting mode, or W3C WCAG 1.0 mode.

If the checkbox for a particular checkpoint is checked, then you will be prompted to answer that question during the interview.

There are different strategies here depending on your test plan.

If you are the only person testing a site, you may be responsible for all checkpoints and therefore, you want all questions available asked to you.

If you are working on a team, you may be responsible for testing only for a few elements on the whole site.

In this case, you may want to only check off the questions you are responsible for, and others on your team will select the questions they are responsible for.

The default answers tab allows you to choose the default answers that will appear in the wizard.

If you are sure that for some checkpoint, the majority of the answers to a question will be passing, then you may set your default answer to Yes for this checkpoint.

Even though you set a default answer, the verifier will be the one to confirm this answer and change it if necessary.

The process tab allows easy access to selecting the verifiers.

You have the option of being prompted every time you run the interviewer to pick a verifier, or you can use a default verifier.

You have the option of choosing your file selection method from interview from the current pages for each page, interview from selected pages in the web for each page, or interview for all pages in the web one time for each check.

If you are going to use the same method repeatedly, you can opt to use one of these settings as a default and not be prompted to make these choices every time you run an interview.

The workflow tab allows you to choose how the Accessibility Interviewer fits into your verification process.

You can select to use the standard questionnaire for the visual checks, or if you are working in Section 508 mode, you can use the Section 508 Wizard mode when being interviewed.

In the W3C Mode, you will be using the Standard Questionnaire.

If you want, you can select to run the Accessibility Interviewer immediately after programmatic verification.

If you choose not to run it this way, you can later run the Accessibility interview from the option located under the File menu.

The Use data from previous interview checkbox allows you to include visually verified content in your reports for when you are programmatically testing and have chosen not to run an interview at this time.

The Publish reports when complete checkbox allows the user to publish reports from the recorder database.

This will recreate reports on all tested pages in the database, even those that were not tested in your last run.

When done with the wizard settings, click on the save button and close.

Starting the interview wizard

If you selected the option to run the interview wizard after verification in the wizard settings, then after the programmatic checks the interview wizard will appear.

You can also select the interview wizard by selecting the File menu, then selecting Run, then selecting Accessibility Interview Wizard.

In either case, the wizard will appear.

In the verifier list, select the person performing the verification.

You can also choose to:

1. Interview for current pages.

You need to have pages selected in AccVerify to do this.

When running the wizard, the wizard will step through once for each page in the list.

2. Select from all pages in the web.

With this option, all pages listed in the recorder database will be shown and you need to select from that list.

By default, all will be checked, but you can uncheck those that you do not wish to check.

When running the wizard, the wizard will step through once for each page in the list.

3. Interview for all pages in a current web as a single group.

With this option, you will be answering a question once, and each answer will apply to all pages in the web.

If you selected to choose from the pages in the web, you will be presented with a list of files in the recorder database for your web where you will then pick from the list.

If you had selected from the other options, you will just see a list of files to work through.

Click next to continue.

If you are working in Section 508 mode and you have the Section 508 Wizard option selected in the workflow tab of the settings, then you will see a different wizard screen for each question.

Each screen has a help topic specific to that question and some screens will show results from programmatic checkpoints designed to assist the user in verification.

You can also open the web page in your default web browser using the open button.

Select the answer for the interview questions from the drop-down menu.

Where programmatic information is available to assist the user in performing the visual check, this information is listed in the lower panel on the form.

Help is available for each checkpoint, describing the rule, who is affected by it, and how to test for it and repair violations of it.

If working in W3C WCAG mode, or you chose the standard questionnaire from the workflow tab if in Section 508 reporting mode, then you will be presented with a list of answers from which to choose from.

The same level of help is available here too as with the other wizard.

When done, an overview of the results is shown.

Depending on your settings, you may be finished if you had selected only one file, or you selected to run all files in the web as a group.

You may proceed to start testing another page if you selected more that one file and you did not opt to test all pages as a group.

If in the workflow settings, you had selected to publish the reports when done with the interview, AccVerify will now publish the reports.

If you chose to run the interview after the programmatic verification, then the results of your interview will be available in the reports that you have just created.

If you are running the interviewer independently of the programmatic verification, then the next time you publish reports, the interview results will be in the reports.

You have the option of creating reports in XML.

These reports are based on the EARL (Evaluation And Report Language).

The Evaluation And Report Language is an RDF based framework for recording, transferring

and processing data about automatic and manual evaluations of resources.

The purpose of this is to provide a framework for generic evaluation description formats that can be used in generic evaluation and report tools.

See the W3C web site for more information

When creating the Combined HTML reports, you have the option to show the verifier, or who tested the page.

This information will appear with the particular checkpoints that it applies to.

The AccVerify/AccRepair API allows Systems Integrators and Users to integrate AccVerify and AccRepair into their

WebSite publishing or testing architectures thus providing the ability to run Accessibility verification and repair solutions

as part of the process from within their content delivery system.

Additionally, organizations that utilize proprietary content creation systems can incorporate HiSoftware solution functions into these systems without exposing their Intellectual Property outside of the organization.
