HiSoftware’s AccMonitor
Integrates with Microsoft® SharePoint™ Portal
Server to Help Users Create and Maintain
Accessible Web Document Collections in SharePoint™
Workspaces
Concord, New Hampshire –
November 16, 2001 - HiSoftware, Inc., today
released AccMonitor™ for Microsoft® SharePoint™
Portal Server, an automated server solution that
verifies accessibility compliance for Web files in
Microsoft® SharePoint™ workspaces. Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server is a document management
system that allows users to find, share, and
publish information easily via a web-based portal.
With AccMonitor™ for Microsoft® SharePoint™ Portal
Server, users of both solutions can create and
maintain a Web document collection that is
accessible according to both Section 508
requirements in the Rehabilitation Act Amendments
of 1998 and W3C® “Priority 1” guidelines for
Web-based content.
AccMonitor™ for Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server features acclaimed
verification technology and dynamic reporting,
including “email alerts” and detailed reports for
all Web files or only files that fail programmatic
checkpoints. AccMonitor™ for Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server joins HiSoftware’s line
of accessibility products that integrate with
Microsoft® products, including AccVerify® for
FrontPage®, AccRepair® for FrontPage®, and
AccVerify® SE for FrontPage®.
AccMonitor™ for Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server particularly benefits
government agencies and corporate entities that
manage document collections using Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server. HiSoftware
accessibility solutions are already in use by
several U.S. federal agencies including the
Departments of the Navy, Army, Veterans Affairs,
Agriculture, Commerce, Bureau of Land Management,
National Institute of Health, and others.
“AccMonitor™ for Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server combines the power of a
web-based document management system with an
automated solution for creating and maintaining
accessible Web documents. This allows developers
to focus their efforts on creation and maintenance
of accessible Web based information. Together
these solutions make Web site management a
comprehensive process,” said
HiSoftware CEO Robert
B. Yonaitis.
Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act Amendments went into effect on
Monday, June 25, 2001. The section mandates that
federal agencies must ensure that all electronic
and information technology purchased, maintained,
or developed meets the accessibility standards
established by the U.S. Access Board. Although
federally mandated, over 40 state governments,
educational institutions, and many private
organizations are currently implementing
accessibility standards.
AccMonitor™ for Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server Features
Customized Reporting for
Section 508 and W3C: AccMonitor™ for Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server can be configured to
generate and distribute dynamic accessibility
reports in regular intervals. Email alerts can be
sent automatically to multiple recipients for all
Web files, or just those that fail programmatic
checkpoints. Reports include URL links to the
files monitored and to the corresponding reports,
so that anyone with a Web browser can view them.
Additionally, reports can be customized to verify
compliance with Section 508 requirements or W3C®
“Priority 1” guidelines. Accessibility reports
comply with accessibility standards for Web-based
content, and can be published easily on a network
or the Internet.
Scalability for Web Servers
and Sites: AccMonitor™ for Microsoft® SharePoint™
Portal Server tracks the accessibility status of
Web documents managed through a SharePoint™ Portal
Server workspace. Using the AccMonitor console,
the user can include or exclude Microsoft®
SharePoint™ Portal Server workspace document
directories or file types. The software can send
“email alerts” to an unlimited number of
recipients, and the user can select accessibility
rules and special report modes for Section 508
requirements or W3C® “Priority 1” guidelines.
