HiSoftware Releases
AccRepair® Website Accessibility
Correction Software
Software Verifies and Corrects Web-based
Information for Compliance with Federal
Accessibility Standards
Concord, New Hampshire
– May 23, 2001 - Hiawatha Island Software
Company, Inc. (HiSoftware) today released
AccRepair®, an off-the-shelf software
solution that guides users through the
steps of achieving accessibility for their
Web content. AccRepair ensures compliance
with federal accessibility standards,
outlined in Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act Amendments of 1998.
Using a wizard format, AccRepair locates
non-compliant Web elements cited in
federal accessibility standards, and
prompts you to correct them.
Section 508 of the
Rehabilitation Act Amendments goes into
effect on June 21, 2001. The section
mandates that federal agencies must ensure
that all electronic and information
technology purchased, maintained, or
developed meets the accessibility
standards established by the U.S. Access
Board. Although federally mandated, state
governments and private organizations can
benefit by adhering to these standards.
AccRepair includes the Website
accessibility compliance verification
technology found in HiSoftware’s
AccVerify®, and is available as an upgrade
to AccVerify. AccRepair identifies Web
elements that fail accessibility
standards. When an element is identified,
the AccRepair Wizard tells you what you
need to do to repair it. The AccRepair
Library supports one-click repair of Web
elements. Once an element has been added
to the library, it can be automatically
repaired if it appears in other Web pages.
Through its verification technology,
AccRepair provides comprehensive
verification of accessibility standards
compliance for Web sites, including
programmatic/rule-based verification,
dynamic reporting with checklists and
summaries, inclusion of Priority 1
checkpoints, and Failsafe checking.
AccRepair is available in a Server
version, as a stand-alone application, and
as an integrated add-in to Microsoft®
FrontPage®.
“Our customers
recognize the importance of complying with
accessibility standards on their Web sites
so that the information they provide is
available to all. The accessibility
problem is so great that only a solution
that can be widely distributed and easily
used can address these problems. AccRepair
provides a powerful solution with a simple
interface, ” said
HiSoftware
CEO and President, Robert B. Yonaitis.
