Department of the Navy selects AccMonitor for Enterprise Monitoring of LIFELines Distributed Web Based J2EE Platform.

Concord, NH January 14, 2003 – HiSoftware Company announced today that the Department of the Navy will be utilizing AccMonitor Server to evaluate and monitor the Section 508 testing compliance for its multi-award winning LIFELines Web Based Quality of Life (QOL) Delivery System. Through this agreement, both HiSoftware Company’s software solutions, and technical consulting services will be utilized for evaluation, captioning and consultation on further enabling the LIFELines platform for users of assistive technologies.

AccMonitor is an automated accessibility and content quality testing solution for Web sites or for use in conjunction with intranet servers or file servers. Using a crawler, AccMonitor tests sites for complete conformance with content quality standards for search, usability and custom organizational policies as well as accessibility standards mandated by Section 508 of the federal government's Rehabilitation Act and the international accessibility guidelines set forth by the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C). AccMonitor spiders, or crawls over, entire Web sites and reports on their status.

In addition to “out-of-the-box” testing and reporting for Accessibility, Privacy, Metadata and Usability standards, AccMonitor Server allows an organization’s experts and/or policy managers to define content policies and then provides a solution to validate compliance with these policies. The final result is a complete and concise report on the total accessibility, quality and policy compliance status of content that has been tested.

LIFELines was inaugurated by the Secretary of the Navy and senior DoD officials in January 1999 as a web-based access and delivery system that reinvented the Quality of Life program and services delivery to improve the availability and range of information to the Total Force. Using five modern telecommunication media - the Internet, Internet simulcasting, satellite broadcasting, teleconferencing and cable television - LIFELines is delivering a broad range of QOL support services globally to tens of thousands of servicemen and women 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The service included self-help information, distance education, crisis assistance, on-line access to professional QOL service providers, and access to a full range of on-line business transactions. The LIFELines Platform has received accolades and recognition for the tremendous services and resources that it provides to servicemen and women and their families. More information about this web-based platform is available by visiting: http://www.lifelines2000.org/home.htm...

The Department of the Navy LIFELines team joins a growing list of customers turning to HiSoftware Company for accessibility solutions, including but not limited to Microsoft Government, Mercury Interactive, Commerce One, the Internal Revenue Service, US Army Materiel Command, and Department of Defense. Additional customer information is available from HiSoftware’s Web site: http://www.hisoftware.com/access/scustomers.html

HiSoftware Company will also provide its AccVerify®/AccRepair® and Hi-Caption™ software to LIFELines Project team for use by its webmasters, application developers, and Section 508 compliance experts. Additionally, HiSoftware technical services team will work with LIFELines Web developers to ensure that accessible design is incorporated into future iterations of the Web portal.

HiSoftware’s commercial product line includes a combination of user-driven interactive desktop solutions that allow developers to test their content for conformance with standards, and server-side applications that allow for automated and remote testing. A scalable architecture provides a faster deployment time and lower cost of ownership for the solution set. More information about these applications is available from the HiSoftware Web site: http://www.hisoftware.com/access/index.html

Section 508, an amendment to the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, requires electronic and information technology that is used, developed, and procured by the Federal government to be accessible to people with disabilities.
