Clemson
University Chooses HiSoftware for
Accessibility Compliance
Nashua, NH – July 11, 2006 –
HiSoftware, a leading provider of
software, services and managed
operation solutions that monitor and
optimize Web content, quality and
regulatory compliance, today
announced that Clemson University
has chosen to implement HiSoftware’s
AccVerify®,
AccRepair®
and Hi-Caption™
Studio for the creation and
management of Web Accessibility
standards across their Web site
www.clemson.edu. Clemson is one
of the top universities in the US
with more than 17,000 students
enrolled in undergraduate and
graduate degree programs.
Carla Rathbone, Director,
Educational Technology Services and
Distance Education for Clemson,
said, “With over 95 million hits to
our Web site, making sure that our
Web content is accessible is very
important us. Prior to implementing
HiSoftware’s solutions we were
testing for accessibility issues
manually, one page at a time. Plus
not all content owners had the
ability to make the necessary
accessibility fixes, taxing the
resources of our development team.”
Rathbone continued, “Now with
HiSoftware’s accessibility testing
and repair solutions, sites with
minimal accessibility issues can be
fixed by the content owner, even if
not a developer by trade. This gives
the support and development team
more time to focus on sites that are
more complex as well as portal
applications.”
Clemson’s university-wide
Accessibility project is aimed at
addressing Section 508 Accessibility
guidelines for Web site content
mandated by the state of South
Carolina. The university allows
everyone on campus to have their own
Web space so finding an
Accessibility solution that not only
allows content developers to find -
but also fix - accessibility issues
was important. Clemson chose to
implement HiSoftware’s Educational
bundle which includes AccVerify,
AccRepair and Hi-Caption Studio to
manage and automate Accessibility
testing, monitoring and repair
across all areas of the university’s
Web site. The AccRepair module was a
key component in Clemson’s decision
as it allows even non-developers to
easily fix pages with Accessibility
issues, helping ensure all content
creators adhere to Accessibility
guidelines.
HiSoftware President and CEO,
Kurt A. Mueffelmann, said,
“HiSoftware is pleased to add
Clemson University to the growing
list of hundreds of universities and
colleges across the US using our
solutions for Accessibility
compliance. Our comprehensive
Accessibility solutions and
expertise in educational sites, make
it easy for educational institutions
to monitor, enforce and repair Web
content to make sure they keep on
top of state and government mandated
compliance guidelines.”
