US Department of Veterans Affairs Awards $8.4 million Contract for HiSoftware’s Compliance Sheriff for SharePoint
Three-Year Contract Extends Project for Enterprise Content Compliance
NASHUA, NH; September 20, 2011 – Continuing priorities for improved online access, as well as the identification and protection of private information within its extensive SharePoint environment, has led the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) to extend a one-year pilot implementation of HiSoftware Compliance Sheriff for SharePoint. HiSoftware Inc., a leading provider of content-aware compliance solutions, today announced that VA has awarded an $8.4 million, three-year contract for SharePoint accessibility and privacy monitoring.
HiSoftware President and CEO Kurt A. Mueffelmann stated, “VA serves a growing and diverse constituency. In response to ‘open government’ and other technology-centric initiatives launched by the Obama administration, VA and its peer agencies are increasingly utilizing collaboration platforms like SharePoint to streamline business processes and accelerate workforce efficiency. HiSoftware is honored to continue our relationship with VA, and we look forward to supporting the agency’s goals for improved content access and security by leveraging the strength of Compliance Sheriff for SharePoint.”
HiSoftware’s Compliance Sheriff for SharePoint complements the powerful content publishing and collaboration features in SharePoint Server 2007/2010 by continuously auditing data and documents for compliance requirements such as privacy, information security, accessibility, site quality and brand integrity. Along with the hundreds of checkpoints included in the Compliance Sheriff rules engine, including pre-defined checkpoint groups for Section 508, HIPAA, FISMA and other regulatory mandates, Compliance Sheriff for SharePoint allows users to easily define and configure tests for an organization’s unique policies without costly consulting and/or programming resources.
VA is tasked with providing high-quality, high-efficiency IT services to more than 20 million veterans and over 350,000 agency employees worldwide through a wide range of Web sites and Web-enabled applications. With the responsibility to provide universal online services and safeguard protected health information (PHI) as well as other personally identifiable information (PII), VA has taken an aggressive and proactive approach to Web accessibility, privacy and data security in SharePoint.
Dana Simberkoff, Vice President of Public Sector for HiSoftware added, “VA has become a model for how federal agencies can embrace new technologies, yet remain informed and vigilant about universal access and the need to protect the sensitive information they collect and retain. By utilizing Compliance Sheriff, VA has been able to successfully identify and manage the inherent data risks across its growing SharePoint network, and develop a strong, proactive governance strategy for information security moving forward.”
More than 80 federal agencies currently utilize HiSoftware’s solutions for Web content compliance, including automated accessibility and privacy monitoring. VA has been a customer of HiSoftware dating back to 2002. The pilot program for Compliance Sheriff for SharePoint, which began in September 2010, included deployment at seven SharePoint installations across the US. The new contract award will extend the number of SharePoint environments utilizing Compliance Sheriff, and support the creation of a model SharePoint farm to demonstrate a best practices approach for privacy and Section 508 accessibility compliance across government.
