The Web Accessibility Handbook, a guide to best practices for achieving Web accessibility. Throughout 2008, Microsoft and HiSoftware partnered to hold a series of European Dialogues on Practical Strategies for an Accessible Web. The Dialogues focused on understanding the challenges of Web accessibility and sharing best practices to address those challenges. Participants included a wide range of individuals with practical, theoretical and/or personal experience in the Web accessibility space, including members of public sector and private sector organizations, technology vendors and NGOs. The goal throughout these dialogues was to not only understand the challenges for organization that looked to achieve Web accessibility but to closely examine some of the solutions and strategies that are already being employed by organizations to accomplish their goals. As a result of the Dialogues a “How To” guide, the Web Accessibility Handbook, was created.  Download a free PDF copy of the Web Accessibility Handbook.
Analysis of Website Accessibility After National Federation of the Blind v. Target
Register to download a free PDF copy of the whitepaper Analysis of Website Accessibility After National Federation of the Blind v. Target. In 2008, the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of California sent a clear signal that companies had to ensure that their websites were accessible to people with disabilities. In 2006, the National Federation of the Blind sued the Target Corporation for the alleged inaccessibility of its website. This litigation applied the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)—and state laws expanding the ADA—to a retailer’s website and quickly became a focal point for advocates and industry alike. As California represents a huge opportunity for almost every company doing business over the Internet, California’s Unruh Act and Disabled Persons Act provide a strong reason for all companies to make their websites accessible.  Download a free PDF copy of the NFB v Target White Paper.
Section 504: Ramifications on IT Accessibility within SLG / EDU Markets
Register to download a free PDF copy of the whitepaper Section 504: Ramifications on IT Accessibility within SLG / EDU Markets. For the last ten years, we have increasingly focused on how people with disabilities access and use the amazing opportunities that information technology—and particularly the Internet—offers us. Much of this interest stemmed from Congress’s 1998 amendments to Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. However, Section 508 is only one part of the overall accessibility model of the Rehabilitation Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). This white paper compares Section 508 with Section 504 and the ADA.  Download a free PDF copy of the Section 504 White Paper.
