Specific Quality Checks for Metadata Policy -Descriptions
The following section describes what checkpoints are being run with this content quality assurance checklist for your content management needs. The checkpoints are described as well as information on why these checks are important.

1- Crawling or spidering programs
The checks below assist in determining whether your site is attractive to search engines and other spidering programs.

1.1 Validate existence of the robots meta tag.
You should have a robots tag in your head section that lets a search engine know that it is welcome to search and index your page. If you do not have this tag, some search engines may not crawl your site and index your pages.

1.2 Validate Minimum Keywords Length
Your keywords meta tag should not be less than 200 Characters. When you use less than 200 Characters you are most likely not taking advantage of a search engines indexing capabilities.

1.3 Validate Minimum Description Length
Your description meta tag should not be less than 55 characters. When you use less than 55 Characters you are most likely not taking advantage of a search engines indexing capabilities.

1.4 Validate that a "revisit-after" link exists on page
This checks to make sure that a "revisit-after" link exists on every page.  This tag lets search engines know how often to return to the web site to look for new documents and re-index the existing ones.

2 - Web Site Ratings
There are different methods to describe that rating of your web site.  These ratings are based on the PICS (Platform for Internet Content Selection) system.  By making sure your site is rated correctly, regardless of the content, you will work better with those solutions designed to filter mature sites and to protect children.

2.1 Validate that a SafeSurf link exists on every page
The Safe Surf PICS tag is a voluntary rating system designed to protect children. This check validates to confirm that the SafeSurf metatag exists. For more information on how to receive a Safe Surf tag, please see http://www.safesurf.com.

2.2 Validate that a Weburbia link exists on every page
The Weburbia PICS tag is a voluntary rating system designed to protect children. This check validates to confirm that the weburbia metatag exists. For more information on how to receive a weburbia rating tag, please see

2.3 Validate that a Recreational Software Advisory Council link exists on every page
The Recreation Software Advisory Council’s rating system is integrated into some web browsers such as Internet Explorer. For more information on the RSAC rating system and information on rating your site with this system, please go to http://www.rsac.org. This check validates to confirm that this metatag exists.

3 - Use of Author meta tag validation
Another important item in proper search engine indexing is the proper use of meta author. The checkpoint listed in this section for author validation assure that you are using the meta tag author.

3.1 Validate the Author Tag is used
Both Public and Private search engines allow you to search for content based on the author of the content. When developing content the author tag should be used. This checkpoint validates that the author tag exists and its value is not blank.

4 - Classification tag
Both public and private search engines can index your page based on the Classification meta tag. This checkpoints checks to make sure the Classification meta tag exists and that its value is not null.

4.1 Validate that classification tag exists
This check validates that the classification meta tag exists and that its value is not equal to null.

5 - Copyright tag
This check is related to searching for the copyright tag on a page.

5.1 Validate copyright tag exists
Every page should have a copyright information in the metadata to assure user agents can clearly identify ownership. This copyright information serves to provide notice to visitors who are accessing your site, of your intellectual property rights for the materials that you are presenting. This can serve to protect you in the event that someone duplicates your content without permission.

6  - Privacy related policy
Your web site should clearly define your privacy policy. A privacy policy assists your visitors in understanding your organizations practices in capturing and/or distributing visitor/customer information, that you may require users to submit. This is particularly important if you require visitors to provide personal information in order for them to access areas of your Web site. If you do not have a clearly documented privacy policy on your Web site, you may risk losing visitors wary of providing their information, and you also may expose yourself to unnecessary risk of litigation. While it is recommended that you use a privacy information link on every page to identify your privacy policy, some organizations will incorrectly verify "form" pages only or pages with "mailto" links. We offer all three checks in these checkpoints. You can modify as required.

6.1 Validate Privacy Policy link exists on page
Every page should contain a link to your web sites privacy policy. This check validates that the link you specify is found in your content.
