Introduction to
HiSoftware Accessibility
Solutions
HiSoftware offers a
comprehensive set of
accessibility solutions
from the client level to
the enterprise level.
These solutions help you
achieve accessibility
for Web-based
information.
About HiSoftware
Solutions and
Accessibility
Criteria for accessible
Web content comes from
two primary sources:
ü Section 508,
Subpart B, §1194.22
Section 508, published
by the U.S. Access
Board, is part of the
Rehabilitation Act
Amendments of 1998. It
includes 16 standards
for Web-based
information.
ü Web Content
Accessibility Guidelines
Published by W3C, or
World Wide Web
Consortium, these
guidelines cover a broad
range of issues for
Web-based information.
HiSoftware solutions
include Priority 1
guidelines, which are
those deemed by the W3C
to be essential to
accessible Web content.
There are 16 Priority 1
guidelines.
Using HiSoftware
solutions, you can
ensure that your
Web-based information
complies with one or
both sets of criteria
for accessibility. You
can customize reports to
reflect compliance with
one or both sets as
well.
HiSoftware Solutions
HiSoftware offers two
accessibility solutions:
AccVerify and AccRepair.
Each is available as a
server-based solution, a
client-level solution,
and a Microsoft®
FrontPage® add-in.

AccVerify®
AccVerify allows you to
verify that your Web
site complies with
international
accessibility guidelines
and the U.S. Section 508
standards. This product
is a client solution and
is available as a
Microsoft FrontPage
add-in. Additionally
there is a server
version that runs
unattended from a
Windows-based server.

AccRepair®
AccRepair allows you to
verify that your Web
site complies with
international
accessibility guidelines
and the U.S. Section 508
standards. When your
site fails compliance,
the HiSoftware Wizard
guides you in repairing
it. Once you repair Web
elements, AccRepair
“remembers” the elements
and fixes them
automatically. This
product is a client
solution and is
available as a Microsoft
FrontPage add-in.
Additionally there is a
server version that runs
unattended from a
Windows-based server.
Collaboration Made
Possible
HiSoftware accessibility
solutions feature
database technology
which allows
organizations to share
knowledge. When you
verify and repair Web
elements, the
information is stored in
the database and is
available to other
users.
You can select the
location of the database
in HiSoftware
accessibility programs,
and you can manage
multiple databases. In
addition, many users can
share the same database.
Consider the following

Collaboration-Friendly
Features of HiSoftware
Solutions
HiSoftware accessibility
solutions provide the
quickest and most
advanced method for
achieving Web
accessibility. All
HiSoftware accessibility
solutions offer these
features:
The AccDB™
AccVerify and AccRepair
feature HiSoftware
database technology. The
database facilitates the
highest level of team
development and
collaboration. When many
users contribute to the
database, the power of
the program multiplies
while the user workload
is cut to a fraction.
The Installation
Program
The installation program
is developed with the
standard Windows
Installer Service. This
supports any size
rollout from the single
user to an
enterprise-wide
deployment. The
installation program
supports other
installing services like
SMS (Systems Management
Server), and
server-based
installations handle the
management of the
Microsoft NT/2000/XP
Services required for
operations.
AutoUpdater™
The AutoUpdater engine
ensures that users can
keep their software
updated without ever
having to contact
HiSoftware Support.
AutoUpdater checks the
HiSoftware server for
product updates, and can
retrieve and install
them.
HiSoftware Reports
HiSoftware solutions
feature dynamic
reporting that includes
several report types and
customization options.
HiSoftware Reports meet
the needs of single
users and development
teams.
ü Detail
Report
A Detail Report, the
most comprehensive
analysis of a Web
document, is generated
for each file verified.
The Detail Report
provides you with the
pass/fail status of each
accessibility standard
and the locations of Web
elements in the
document.
ü Checklist
Report
A Checklist Report
indicates the pass/fail
status of each
accessibility standard,
and is generated in HTML
format for each Web file
verified.
ü Summary
The Summary Report
divides all Web files
verified into two
categories: passed and
failed. If you are
only concerned with
Web documents that
fail to meet
accessibility
standards, this report
is helpful. The
Summary Report is
generated when you
verify more than one
Web file. The Summary
Report, an HTML file,
contains links to the
original files that
passed or failed so
that you can view any
file in your browser.
In addition the
Summary Report
contains links to the
Detail and Checklist
Reports for every file
verified.
Customization of
Reports
Reports can be
customized in several
ways
ü Verify in
U.S./International mode
(W3C Priority 1
guidelines) or U.S. Only
mode (Section 508
standards)
ü Use custom
templates
ü Edit the text
that describes
accessibility standards
and checkpoints
ü Use advanced
rule settings to select
sub rules (For example,
International checkpoint
1.1 / U.S. standard A
states that all non-text
elements should have
equivalent text. You
might want to verify all
images but not applets.
You can do this using
advanced rule settings.)
ü Develop
personalized headers and
footers
ü Add
Organization Information
and Sign-Off blocks
ü Publish
reports with active
links to files verified
and report generated
Spell Checking
All HiSoftware
accessibility solutions
features spell checking.
Just as you would
spell-check a document
before distributing it,
users can spell-check
their descriptive text
for Web elements before
the elements enter the
database. The spell
checking feature is
available to the user in
the Wizard interface.
Multi-User

of AccRepair multiplies
while the user workload
is cut to a fraction.
