* HiSoftware: TagGen Server - Resources Overview

TagGen Server LogoHiSoftware TagGen Server - Resources Overview
A Resource is simply a machine or network or a sub part, e.g. Machine or Drive or Folder of the resource. All Resources are stored in a Managed group. A Managed group is best defined as a name given to a group of resources that will be managed by the HiSoftware™ TagGen Server. The table below will define resource types. Remember a logical grouping of resources (the managed group), generally have the same high level properties.

Class of Resource - Resources can be Super or Standard where; Super will add its policy and metadata rules to every sub drive or folder in its path unless inheritance is blocked. And Super Inheritance Blocking Blocks for every Sub Resource and Standard Resources will assign or block properties or policy for the specific resource only.

Resource Type Description
Machine A Machine is a computer that is visible to the HiSoftware TagGen Server. You can define metadata to be added to all documents on a machine as well as policy and crawler rules.

* You can also define sub level resources, being folders or drives where you can block the inheritance of these top level properties and policy or add to the policy based on the resource. In addition, the Crawler can have specific rules for sub level resources.

** By Default, all accessible drives and documents on the same machine will have the machine level properties applied as per the crawler and/or policy rules.

Drive A Drive is a physical drive or logical drive as defined on the Server where the HiSoftware TagGen Server is installed. A Drive can have properties assigned to the specific drive and all folders that reside on it.

* A Drive can be classified to override inheritance from any member resource that is higher than it in the managed group/or higher in the direct path.

** Any Folder on the drive can also have specific policies set to it and block inheritance for the single folder or all sub folders

Folder A Folder is a specific location on a machine and a drive. The Folder can of course inherit:
  • Managed Group Level Properties
  • Machine Properties
  • Drive Properties and Higher Folder Properties

Drives can also pass their properties down to subfolders.
