regarding the use of the HiSoftware TagGen Server.
- Does the HiSoftware TagGen Server require that Microsoft®
Office be installed on our Server to update or verify metadata
in Office Documents? No, The server can perform all Office
metadata functions without Microsoft® Office Installed.
- Does the HiSoftware TagGen Server require that someone be
logged onto the server in order for it to be run? No, The
Server runs as a system level service.
- We have 6 Workgroups in our organization, Can Each
Workgroup Server implement a HiSoftware TagGen Server and the
the group Administrator configure it to the Workgroups
specific Needs? Yes, The HiSoftware TagGen Server allows for
Flexibility to meet your organizations needs.
- We Currently Use the TagGen Office and JITI Builder
Products, Does this product replace the Client Products? NO,
The HiSoftware TagGen Server augments current metadata
procedures or policies it does not mean that you have to
change existing policies, it simply makes it possible for you
to dramatically improve the entire process. These products
also allow for forward compliance of all new documents
created.
- We have a server that contains all of our corporate
marketing documentation. Within this server we have specific
folders based on category of marketing documentation, will the
HiSoftware TagGen Server allow us to define metadata
properties for the server as a whole and then specify specific
metadata and policy settings for subfolders? Yes, The TagGen
Server allows you to use the Inheritance Server Component to
specify a metadata configuration on your server as specific to
your resources as your needs may be.
- Does HiSoftware TagGen Server help with Content
Classification? Yes, the Server has an Auto Content
Classification Engine that categorizes documents based on user
classification rule sets.
- We want to place metadata values in all documents in our
C:\DOCS folder and we want all sub folders to have the
metadata added as in c:\DOCS, do we need to add each
sub-folder as a resource and then set up metadata identical to
what we did for the C:\DOCS folder? No, You can simply specify
that the C:\DOCS folder is a "Super Folder" and all documents
in sub-folders will automatically be seeded with the same
metadata from C:\DOCS.
- We configured the TagGen Server and then updated all of
our documents on our intranet, what happens when new documents
are added? The TagGen Server runs as a Windows NT/Windows 2000
Service, at the scheduled interval the Crawler will go out and
update new documents according to metadata rules, requiring no
user interaction.
- Can the HiSoftware JITI Builder™ Office Search and Index
Office Documents that have metadata added by the HiSoftware
TagGen Server? Yes, The metadata created by the HiSoftware
TagGen Server is standard metadata stored directly in the
documents and can be Searched and Indexed by the JITI Builder
Office.
- Is the metadata created by the HiSoftware TagGen Server
accessible by our search/portal technology? Yes, the metadata
created by the HiSoftware TagGen Server is stored in the
documents and not some External or Proprietary database that
requires a gateway or service to get to the metadata. The
metadata is stored in the actual documents and available to
any index server or search interface that can utilize
metadata.
- Can I assign a category based on where the documents are
stored? Yes, you can assign categories and virtually any other
metadata value based on where a document is stored.
- When my document is moved outside of the location where it
was does it retain the metadata? Yes, the metadata is stored
in the actual document and will remain in it unless you
specify that the metadata is to be removed in the new folder
based on the HiSoftware Metadata Settings. There is no
requirement the the document stay in any folder to retain its
metadata values!
